Avoiding a Tire Blow Out

KTSM El Paso -- Several accidents lately have been caused by blown out tire. In some of the accidents, passengers have survived. In others, they've died.

Director of Sun City Driving School, Jaime Canalda, gave advice on avoiding a blow out.

"A lot of times you don't check your tires, so you get on the highway and the problem is now you have a bad tire," Canalda said.

He said it's important to check them at least once a month. And know how old your tires are.

"Most tires are recommended by the manufacturer to only last 6 years, " Canalda said.

If you don't know how old your tires are, there's a way to check. There are 4 numbers on your tire, they tell you which week of which year they were made.

Canalda said it's important, especially during extreme hot or cold conditions, to keep tires inflated ...

Also good to check tread depth and check for even tread wear.

The shingle nails are everywhere from the hauling off the replaced roofs. My roof was replaced yesterday, tons of roofers everywhere.

Once a tire(s) are worn out, they must be replaced for safety reasons. It isn't worth saving money b driving around on tires with little or no useful tread remaining.
